Why running rich doesn't make an engine safer
Extra fuel cools the burn, so a knock-limited engine can take a little more timing. Past that, 0.2–0.3 lambda moves power only 1–2%, too much fuel misfires, and a misfire reads lean on the wideband. Here is why richer is not safer.

Why more boost doesn't make more power on a diesel
HP Academy raised boost on a stock Duramax from 19 to 25 psi and left the fuel alone. The mix went lean, and power moved less than 10 hp. Here is why a diesel makes torque from fuel, not air.
